So....What
DID You Do This Summer?
SITC
'98 Louisville, Kentucky
I
had the wonderful opportunity to spend this summer with 21 other college
students from around the nation in the great city of Louisville, Kentucky.
We learned a TON about the true nature of God, and also were fortunate
enough to pray with 104 children and adults to receive Christ! God
is truly good!
What
Exactly Happened?
Summer
in the City is an 8 week-long mission trip that focuses on the inner city.
In our particular case, in Louisville, the project focuses on children.
For 6 weeks, we worked at 10 ministry sites around the city. It was
hard, rewarding work!
We were
broken into 5 small groups called ministry teams.
That's
Matt, Me, Megan, and Adam (also known as fearless leader).
We went
to four of the 10 ministry sites. First.....
THERE WAS
MONDAY
On Mondays,
we had the opportunity to go to East Louisville Community Center.
While there, we worked to establish rapport with the kids and the staff
to lay groundwork for next summer. Next summer, Here's Life Inner
City will run a Wednesday Bible Camp all summer called "Time Out" where
children from all over the city will have the opportunity to learn about
God. We also taught tennis...hmmm...and I thought I didn't KNOW how
to play tennis???

And then what?
On Tuesday
through Friday, we worked at 3 different ministry sites around the city.
We would stay at each one for two weeks.
We went to
First Gethsemene for the
first two weeks. In the mornings, we helped tutor in the L.I.N.C.
program, which is a supplementary instruction program for kids. In
the afternoons, we staffed the Team Kid Day Camp.

Eastern
Star Baptist Church
Ah...the
big blue building! Our second two weeks of ministry were spent at
the Parks and Recreation Day Camp housed at Eastern Star Baptist Church.
We helped the main teachers out tutoring, reading, singing, keeping the
kids entertained. We had the opportunity to build many relationships
here, both with the kids and with the staff.

Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club
Our last
two weeks on the ministry front were spent here. In the mornings,
we planned our afternoon schedule. In addition to teaching Arts &
Crafts and refereeing the Game Room, we also led a short Bible Story.
As you
can see, we were pretty busy....this is but a short part of my summer
